Andrew Jackson was a political leader of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He became a general in the War of 1812, defeated the British in the Battle of New Orleans. He passed the North Carolina bar in 1787 and became a public prosecutor in Nashville. He became a congressman in 1796; a year later he was elected to the U.S. Senate, but resigned in 1798 to become a justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. He was elected President of the United States after John Quincy Adams. His style of government was called Jacksonian Democracy. He was criticized for expanding the power of his presidential position going over and beyond what was customary before his time. A wonderful, fact-based book that is sure to please. It follows Jackson's early career through 1821.
