The story of the man who made an impact on young people through his work among the sick and suffering in Asia, and through his books and lectures. Author Teresa Gallagher had organized a group of girls in her office to send contributions and medical supplies to his clinic in Nam Tha in northern Laos in 1956. From that moment until his death from cancer in Memorial hospital five years later, Teresa Gallagher devoted all her free hours to Dr. Tom Dooley and his mission in life. Others influenced by Dr. Dooley are Dr. Dick Baldwin who became a doctor in Laos; Margaret Alberding, R. N., of Canada who is working on Khong Island, Laos, for the Thomas A. Dooley Foundation; Dr. David Stanley and wife who are the first American couple with blond, blue-eyed boys that Lao people had ever seen; and President-elect Kennedy's plans for the Peace Corps inspired by the work of Dr. Dooley."
