This volume was published in 1979 with a new Introduction by Richard Brilliant. The book is divided into four sections. Next is a description of the Sacra Via, which extends from the Coliseum to the Capitolium, and was the first part of the city to be thoroughly excavated. Finally, the different regions that developed during and after Augustus, like the Circus Maximus and the Esquiline, are discussed. In addition, there are two detailed indexes, one organized according to architectural groupings, and the other according to Roman chronology. .
