A collection of seven essays by Prof. Grandgent: Imitation; Difficilior Lectio; Tee Um Lie; Behavior; Cracks in the Clouds; Out of Antiquity; and Old Haunts. Charles Hall Grandgent (1862 -1939) was an American romance philologist and Italian scholar. Grandgent studied at Harvard University and graduated in 1883. He taught High School for a few years and from 1896 until 1932 he was Professor in Romanistics at Harvard University. From 1902 until 1911 he was secretary of the Modern Language Association, and in 1912 its president. In 1923 he became honorary president of the American Association of Teachers of Italian at its foundation. The Dante Society of America annually confers The Charles Hall Grandgent Award. . The volume is in excellent condition, unmarked, tight, square, and clean; gilt on spine mildly faded, else fine. The scarce unclipped dust jacket, now in Mylar, is moderately chipped with some small loss on the rear panel, else very good. NEAR FINE/GOOD. 12mo 7" - 7" tall. (viii), 190 pp
