Very Early Reprint. Publisher's full red cloth, gilt lettering and decoration on spine and cover, decorated endpapers, t.e.g. nd (c. 1900). Illustrated with six full-page plates (including tissue-protected frontispiece) in decorative green borders by C. D. Williams and B&W decoration by Charles Edward Hooper. Newton Booth Tarkington (1869 - 1946) was an American novelist and dramatist best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novels "The Magnificent Ambersons" and "Alice Adams." This is his second book. Monsieur Beaucaire was adapted as a 1924 silent film drama based on the Booth Tarkington novel. Filmed at Paramount Studios in New York City, it was produced and directed by Sidney Olcott and starred Rudolph Valentino. It was later (1946) adapted as a comedy starring Bob Hope.
