ROBERT BERNARD CLARK (1923 - 2013) was appointed to the Chair of Zoology at Newcastle University in 1966, a post he held until his retirement in October 1989. His long and distinguished academic career began in 1944 when he graduated in Physics from Chelsea Polytechnic before reading for a second degree in Zoology at Exeter University, graduating in 1950. He focused on marine zoology and specialised in the biology of marine worms, particularly the Polychaeta, a class of annelid worms.
