Slack: 73 pp including tables and graphs. Original printed paper covers of each offprint bound at back. Light abrasions to edges of covers and spine, binding tight, old water stains to first 3 leaves, rippling to pages that are clean and bright, overall good+. WILLIAM CHURCHILL, (1859 " 1920) was an American Polynesian ethnologist and philologist, born in Brooklyn, New York, and educated at Yale. In 1896 he became consul general to Samoa. In 1897 his commission was extended, making him also Consul General to Tonga. In 1915, he took a position as research associate in primitive philology at the Carnegie Institution in Washington, D.C. FRANCIS GANO BENEDICT (1870 - 1957) was an American chemist, physiologist, and nutritionist who developed a calorimeter and a spirometer used to determine oxygen consumption and measure metabolic rate. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Benedict attended Harvard University, earning his bachelor's degree in 1893 and his master's degree in 1894. He earned his Ph.D., magna cum laude, at Heidelberg University in 1895. He taught at Wesleyan University and did work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1909.
