Two volumes 11 inches tall, 1/2 leather binding with marbled boards, gilt title to spines, marbled endpapers, institutional bookplate to front paste-downs, original paper cover bound into Vol. I, library embossed seal top corner of title page, 168 pp, 7 lithographic plates wit facing descriptive text (3 folding, 4 color with tissue guards); Vol. II, 67 pp, 5 folding plates; cover edges worn, text pages and plates unmarked, very good. Text in German. KARL MATTHIAS FRIEDRICH MAGNUS KRAEPELIN (1848 - 1915) was Director of the Naturhistorisches Museum Hamburg, which was destroyed during World War II. In 1884 he became a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. He was a member of the Assembly of University Professors of Hamburg from 1901 and the Faculty Council of Colonial Institute from 1908. Kraepelin gained worldwide recognition for his commitment to reform science education in schools. He authored several books on botany and zoology, among which, Leitfaden fur den Unterricht an Botanischen mittleren und haheren Schulen (Guide for botany classes in middle and high schools).
