A very special presentation copy inscribed and SIGNED by the author to his teacher, Meir Ben-Horin, himself a noted scholar and author of Jewish books. Inscription reads, "To my teacher and friend Professor Meir Ben-Horin whose interest and constant encouragement made this study possible. With gratitude, Elias Schulman, New York, 6-15-71." Today Schulman's papers are an important part of the Yiddish archives at the University of Pennsylvania library. Book discusses the theoretical basis for secular Yiddish schools, their history through the Revolutionary years, the impact of Boslhevism, development, curriculum, text books, decline, and WWII and the final liquidation of the schools. 184 pages.
