Clean, atrractive booklet measuring 6"x8-3/4". Plain tan wraps printed in black ink at face. Only fault is small spot at top front. Illustrated with black and white photographs. Third Street Music School Settlement, the nation's oldest community music school, was founded in 1894 by Emilie Wagner to provide pleasure and instruction to impoverished immigrants of New York's Lower East Side. It continues today. Here we have a booklet explaining the program and its offerings for the 1949-50 school year for both adults and children. In addition to instrument lessons, there were voice, opera, rhythmic dancing and children's music appreciation courses. Inside the back cover and continuing over to the back itself are time slots with penciled names and the age of each child, ranging from three to nine. Could be erased, but an interesting adjunct to the text. 16 pages. [ music 2 ]
