Blue cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and stamping to the front cover. Faded spine and worn edges. Rubbing or scuffing wear to the front cover. Small oval stain on the blank pages preceding the rear endpapers. The lower corner of the title page is torn away. 221 pages with Appendix (The Italia's Doom). Illustrated with black and white photos (all taken by the author with a few exceptions), including a frontispiece photo of the author, Einar Lundborg, Captain in the Swedish Air Force. Laid in is a promotional photograph of Lundborg with a typed piece of paper adhered to the bottom of the photo announcing the publication of his book and lecture-tour in America. The book is Lundborg's account of rescuing General Umberto Nobile and his crew of the Italian dirigible Italia after it crashed on an ice floe while returning from a polar flight of Arctic exploration. From the book's Publisher's Note, "This is the tale of the gallant Swedish expedition to rescue the officers and crew of the Italia, the Italian dirigible that came to grief on the northern ice in May, 1928. The aviator's dramatic adventures here are related by himself, and the circumstances out of which they arose, will be more fully understood upon reference to the brief outline of the Italia's career as printed at the end of the book."
