Varnished Miniature from Mstera

Black cloth with pictorial paper on the front cover. Edge-worn and the gilt title on the spine is fading. An inscription on the blank page facing the half-title page has a blank piece of paper pasted over it, the moisture from which affecting the next page in the corresponding area at the top of the page. 167 pages, the first 40 of which are in Russian. A few pages of English text, including a description of the book and the art. Illustrated with 40 color plates with Russian and English titles. There's also a list of the illustrations in English as well as Russian at the back of the book. The art represents a form of Russian folk miniature painting on papier-mache, with Mstera being one of the traditional centers of this art in Russia.
