Dark blue cloth with gilt title on the spine. Gift inscription inside the front cover, otherwise fine. 154 pages with Selected Bibliography. Introduction and Notes by Jean-Pierre Cap. A previously unpublished play from eighteenth-century France. Russia's Catherine I is the heroine of the play and this play is historically significant for having been the only work in French to glorify Catherine I. This book is organized into the following sections: Foreword, Critical Introduction, Introduction to Rozenie ou les Moscovites by Comte Charles-Henri d'Estaing, the text of Rozenie ou les Moscovites, and Bibliography. The introduction to the play and the play itself are both in French, with English footnotes. The manuscript of the play was discovered in the archives of the chateau de Ravel in the province of Auvergne, France. The chateau and its archives had belonged to Admiral Comte Charles-Henri d'Estaing, the presumptive author, until he was guillotined in 1794.
