Dark brown cloth with gilt stamping to the spine and front cover and decorative blind-stamped borders to both covers. Decorative marbling to the fore-edge and bottom edge of the page block. Some shelf wear and wear to the corners. The binding is tight and square. The book contains two ownership indicators-one a name label (recent, typed) on the front free endpaper, the other an ink stamp from, we believe, the original owner on the following blank page. She was Anna B. Cokely of Rusk, West Virginia and she interacted with her book with interesting annotation and marginalia throughout most of the book in period ink that appears consistent with the publication date. Often reprinted, this printing is stated on the title page as Three Hundred and Twenty-first Thousand, but we find only several copies online from this Boston publisher. 700 pages, the last 100 of which comprise Chapter XVIII: Fruitage - A series of letters republished from the Christian Science Journal, which provide testimony to the "healing efficacy of Christian Science and particularly concerning the vast number of people who have been reformed and healed through the perusal or study of this book." We do not fina a letter from Ms. Cokely, but it is certain through her annotation that she read and studied the writing that Mary Baker G. Eddy offered in this volume.
