[a nice square copy, although the first signature seems slightly mis-aligned due to a possible loosening of the front hinge (which is a bit tender), very light wear at a couple of corners and top of spine, a bit of dust-soiling to top edge (see description for information about property stamps); jacket browned at spine, split at bottom of rear hinge (about 1-1/2" up), ditto at front foldover (about 3" up from bottom and 1" down from top), medium-size chip at top of front panel (unfortunately taking part of title with it), minor paper loss/small tears at spine ends and several corners, light overall soiling, a couple of small internal tape-repairs at top of rear panel]. The first of two novels by the co-author (with husband DuBose) of the pre-musical play "Porgy," this one being "a spirited, sparkling tale.of three young vaudevillians whom chance throws together and something stronger than chance refuses to let part." (In the front of the book are two stamps: on the verso of the ffep, "This book belongs in The Century Co.'s permanent library," and opposite that, "Out of Print File, D. Appleton-Century Co., Inc."; there is also what appears to be a call number of some sort (4 digits) affixed to the spine of the dust jacket.)
