[nice clean book with no discernible wear; the jacket shows just a touch of handling wear]. (pen and ink drawings) "The astonishing true-life novel of women who created an all-female world of glamour & discipline." I'm not sure what a "true-life novel" is supposed to be, exactly, but according to the jacket blurb "this life is a reality in Britain today," and is apparently headed up by the author (actually called "Miss Regina Snow"), who "actually lives the life of which she writes." She was the author of an earlier novel, "The Feminine Regime," which I've seen described as "the first serious novel of female discipline ever to be published." The jacket here claims that this will be "the subject of a 3-part documentay series on Channel 4 in September," but my efforts to find out about that program (if it exists) have so far been fruitless. (Although I did learn a little bit about the more modern "Norway based melodic death metal band" of the same name.) The same year this book was published, Miss Snow also put out another in a similar format, a book of stores entitled "The District Governess." I definitely get the feeling that this is the sort of thing that if you know about it you know ALL about it, and if you don't you'll end up displaying your ignorance if you try to describe it in any detail; so I'll leave it at that. (One last thing, though: at the bottom of the front jacket flap is this curious note: "For use within the Empire this dust-wrapper must be discarded." Since I am personally not "within the Empire," I think I'm pretty safe in ignoring that directive.)
