(green buckram with embossed silhouette decoration; no dust jacket) [solid copy, bottom corners bumped, spine slightly turned, internally very clean except for previous owner's name/address stamp on ffep]. The author (full name: Carl Henry Grabo) was an English professor at the University of Chicago, an authority on 18th century authors, and turned out 13 books in his lifetime, including "The Art of the Short Story," "The Magic Plant: The Growth of Shelley's Thought," "The Amateur Philosopher," and "The Cat in Grandfather's House." (Thank goodness there was at least one cat book in there.) What possessed him to make this apparently unique (for him) foray into what appears to be psychodramatic-romantic fiction, we'll probably never know; the story takes place largely in an unnamed Southern location, and involves the Ku Klux Klan at some point.
