[good sound book with just a bit of wear to the corners; jacket shows light soiling, old tape reinforcements at spine ends "A New York novel, a nostalgic period piece of the early years of this century and a story of character development." The heroine, Stephanie Winthrop, is an only child whose aunt and uncle come to take care of her after her parents die -- in the same house in which she was born and raised, "a house to the influence of which she unwisely and dangerously becomes a slave, a house from which she has to win freedom." The author was the daughter of Arthur Train, author of the "Mr. Tutt" stories; although she had written many books prior to this one, this was her first novel, "one she has wanted to write for years."
