[no discernible wear to book; jacket shows just a teensy bit of surface-scratching, tiny tears at top corners, slight wrinkling at top of front panel]. (B&W photographs, figures, tables) Fascinating account of what was then a newly-introduced home entertainment format/technology, just gathering steam for a major challenge to the already-established home videocassette business (which itself was still engaged in the Beta vs. VHS war), but eventually doomed to obsolescence. The book "explains the technology of the video disc, traces its evolution since the pioneering efforts of the 1960s, describes current and potential applications, and analyzes the cost factors so crucial to the disc's future." An appendix lists "Organizations Involved with the Video Disc as of October 1980," including equipment manufacturers/distributors and programming producers/distributors. Table 3.1 is a two-page list of the entire catalog of MCA DiscoVision as of mid-1980.
