[light shelfwear to bottom of book, very slight deterioration of cloth at spine extremities; jacket shows some edgewear, a couple of tiny closed tears, moderate fading to spine, light soiling to rear panel]. Circus novel about "the nonchalant Mario Verona, greatest living king of the flying trapeze, [who] rose from an obscure continental performer to become the spoiled darling of America's big top," and the two women who loved him: "the famous Mavis Merton, tragic Queen of the Air, [and] Mitzi, "another aerialist, young, vivacious, loyal, and gallant." Although the jacket blurb touts the book's realistic depiction of the circus milieu, an unnamed critic for Variety mocked the publisher's claims that the author had actually traveled with a circus, noting that "any story which has a gymnast doing three forward triples and two double backs in the course of a seven minute turn is far from authentic." (Well, yeah!)
