Although the jacket blurb touts the book's realistic depiction of the circus milieu, an unnamed critic for Variety mocked the publisher's claims that the author had actually traveled with a circus, noting that "any story which has a gymnast doing three forward triples and two double backs in the course of a seven minute turn is far from authentic." (Well, yeah!)
