[nice clean book, no discernible wear; jacket shows moderate edgewear, a little scuffing to front and rear panels]. (tables, figures) "This study of the acculturation of three generations of Japanese Americans is based on both biographical data and psychological tests. After describing the focus of his investigation and the various research instruments that were employed, [the author] presents the historical framework within which distinctive Japanese and American characteristics developed. An account of Tokugama, Japan is followed by an analysis of the effects of nineteenth-century modernization and the American occupation after World War II. Similarly, the author traces the importance of the frontier heritage to the American way of life. The remainder of the book contains a wealth of detailed information concerning cultural change. Much of this information has not been available previously, since this is the first time that identical psychological tests were administered to three generations of Japanese."
