(no dust jacket) [good solid copy, spine slightly turned, spine cloth moderately faded]. (caricature drawings) A charming little book in which the Tallow family -- George and Phoebe, their children Jane and Edward James, and Phoebe's mother "Grannie" -- and their various friends and acquaintances chatter on endlessly about the movies they see and the movie stars they adore. As Anthony Armstrong ("A.A.") puts it in his introduction, "if ever a family takes the flicks seriously, it's the Tallows." The text is enlivened by about 65 drawings, divided about evenly between cartoons of the family's antics and caricatures of movie stars, including Fred Astaire, Laurel and Hardy, Carole Lombard, Gary Cooper, Bette Davis, Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable and many others. ("Tallow" appears to be a play on the author's name; was he writing about his own family)
