[light external soiling, some age-toning to edges of text block, tiny surface-scrape near bottom of rear cover]. (Cinma d'aujourd'hui, no. 33) Series Trade PB (B&W photographs) French-language monograph on American director George Cukor. Following the typical format of this popular series, the book includes a critical survey of Cukor's oeuvre to date (his most recent work at that time being MY FAIR LADY), a lengthy interview (translated from an issue of "Film Culture"), excerpts from the screenplays of LES GIRLS and HELLER IN PINK TIGHTS, a selection of critical commentary (including contributions by Francois Truffaut and Henri Langlois), a filmography and a bibliography. As was so often the case with critical appreciation of American filmmakers, the French got there first: this was the first book ever devoted entirely to Cukor and his work, predating the MoMA monograph "Cukor & Co." by six years and Gavin Lambert's "On Cukor" by seven.
