A comedy-thriller, the first play by this writer, about a sucessful and respectable doctor who embarks upon a little experimental crime spree with the intention of making a scientific study of criminal psychology and behavior -- but then falls in with a rather merry band of thieves, and unexpectedly finds himself quite enjoying his newfound life as a criminal. Filmed by Warner Bros. in 1938, with Edward G. Robinson in the title role (succeeding Ralph Richardson and Cedric Hardwicke in the English and Broadway productions, respectively).
