[a decent, solid copy, bumped at corners but otherwise only lightly shelfworn; jacket is pretty rough, with heavy edgewear, a split about halfway up from the bottom along the front hinge, small piece missing from lower right corner of front panel, various other tears/creasing, etc.]. "A novel of backstage, written with inner knowledge and sophisticated wit by an important new author." The author, a Chicago native, had begun her career as a film and drama critic in Chicago, but gave that up when she starting writing magazine fiction. This, her first novel, was followed by two more, "Nan Thursday" (1944) and "Honeyfogling Time" (1946), all of which are fairly uncommon. She died in 1957 at the age of 50.
