(price-clipped) [a good solid copy, with a little deterioration to cloth at spine ends and a bit of wear to the lower extremities; jacket is modestly edgeworn, with a shallow chip at the top of the spine]. (B&W photographs) INSCRIBED to N.Y. newspaper columnist Leonard Lyons and his wife Sylvia, and SIGNED by the author on the ffep, who adds "Oceanside Exile" beneath his signature, which is also dated June 8, 1954, just two weeks after the book's publication date. Autobiography of the screenwriter-playwright-novelist-journalist who was responsible for some of the Twentieth Century's finest works of popular entertainment (including "Twentieth Century" itself, both the play and the movie version co-written with his longtime partner Charles MacArthur). Kirkus Reviews summed the book up nicely: "Poking into every nook and cranny -- of his thinking, his writing, his experiences; of sex, women, marriage, divorce, fatherhood; of public opinion, public figures -- this battle cry of me-dom is a very private life that does not tiptoe in sensitive areas and that does offer stimulating reading in its testimony of a half century of omniverous living." Signed copies are most uncommon. **** NOTE that additional shipping charges will be requested for international shipping on this somewhat hefty book, and for Priority Mail sevice to U.S. customers; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order. **** Signed by Author
