DETAILS NEEDED. The focus of this novel "is upon three sisters, no longer young, re-united in a backwater where the swift currents of life have washed them, and a daughter of to-day, frank, ardent, and quick to test those currents." In a rather weird publishing anomaly, despite the co-credit to American publisher Houghton Mifflin, the first edition had actually been issued in America the previous year by Bobbs-Merrill, under the title "The Almond Tree." This book immediately followed what is probably the author's most famous work (because of the movie made from it), "The Bitter Tea of General Yen."
