[nice clean book with no discernible wear; jacket shows just light overall handling wear]. Novel presenting "a terrifyingly detailed close-up of the motion picture game played in Hollywood, New York and Paris." In his bibliography of Hollywood novels, Anthony Slide summarizes the book thus: "A producer of European art films, noted for his unprincipled methods, signs a contract with a Hollywood leading man [who] is immoral and requires the producer to rescue him from a number of scrapes." According to the jacket blurb, the author "has been successful in every phase of the international motion picture business -- writing, directing and producing -- for almost three decades." (Unmentioned is that he had an undistinguished Hollywood acting career during the 1940s, and was the last of Ginger Rogers's five husbands -- in fact, they were still married when this book came out.) The blurb further proclaims the book to be "the first in a series of novels which Mr. Marshall is now writing about the international motion picture business," although I've seen no evidence that this series ever materialized.
