[a very presentable copy, with no significant wear to book but some uneven age-toning to edges of text block (apparently from variant paper stocks); the jacket shows minor wear to extremities, with minor chipping at top of spine and at upper rear hinge, and short splits (about 1"-1.5") at lower hinges]. The Pasternak classic of a doctor-poet's travails during and after the Russian Revolution, memorably filmed by David Lean in 1965. After Soviet censors refused to permit the novel's publication in the U.S.S.R., a smuggled copy of the manuscript served as the basis for the first publication, an Italian translation issued in Milan in November 1957; the American edition was published in July 1958 (this second printing is from August). ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this moderately heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.****
