(no dust jacket, but enfolded in a COLOR REPRODUCTION of the original dust jacket) [spine a little turn, moderate shelfwear, light external soiling, some discoloration in gutters, rear hinge slightly sprung, one-time owner's initials plus date & place of purchase in ink along edge of rear pastedown (concealed by jacket flap)]. (crime scene map) Mystery novel set in Tahiti, in which "the French police vie with a private investigator" to solve a "series of murders and attempts at murder which terrorize the European colony." Bestor penned two other mystery novels, "Prelude to Murder" (also Dial Press, 1936) and "The Corpse Came Calling" (Phoenix Press, 1941) -- and, if OCLC is to be credited, some years later (the 1950s) he was the co-author of "City Planning: A Basic Bibliography with Special Reference to Civil Engineering and Land Surveying," which went through several subsequent editions, and the sole author of "Buried Cables: A Survey of Buried Electric Distribution for Residential Land Development." It's possible he might have been from Minneapolis, but don't quote me on that. I also don't know what the "postage stamp" connection is in this story. So basically: it's a rare-ish book (no copies of either of his mysteries are currently on offer online) with an exotic locale and a cool jacket illustration -- although PLEASE NOTE that the dust jacket on this book is a COLOR REPRODUCTION of the original, although this has not factored into our pricing; it's a freebie.
