[light shelfwear, a bit of age-toning to edges of text block, one-time owner's name plus date & place of purchase and brief commentary in ink at top of front endpaper; the jacket is edgeworn, with a couple of tiny closed tears at the top of the rear panel, and upon close examination is shown to have been internally tape-reinforced along the top and bottom edges and then "touched up" with black ink to conceal some of the wear]. The second (and last) "Simon Rolfe Murder Mystery" by this author (the previous book, "Murder Without Clues," having been published earlier in the same year. A Sherlock Holmes knock-off (termed a "parody" by a previous owner in a note on the front endpaper, although I don't think that's quite accurate), even to the point of being narrated by one "Henry F. Watson" (who even says "Elementary, my dear Rolfe," before Chapter One is halfway over!). Detective Rolfe is actually a kind of anti-Holmes, who explicitly disdains Conan Doyle's detective's methods as "childish and inefficient," favoring instead his own "unique method of solving a crime by psychological logic," whatever that means.
