[a nice clean copy, no discernible wear to the book; the jacket is slightly rubbed and lightly soiled along the front hinge, and has a tiny puncture wound near the upper left corner of the front panel, but still has a bright and fresh appearance; a nicer copy you are not likely to find]. (B&W photographs) A relatively early entry in the long-running "Films of" book series, which follows the formula -- biographical front material, followed by a chronological film-by-film rundown of the subject's career -- but is also an exemplary volume in the series. This is largely because it eschews the "filler" that too often clutters up these books -- i.e. perfunctory plot synopses accompanied by snippets/excerpts from contemporary reviews of each films -- instead presenting a concise (but well-researched and informative) account of each film's production, along with some intelligent critical commentary, where warranted. (Which means the authors don't waste any more space than necessary on dreck like MARU MARU and CROSSED SWORDS.) You might not think that it would have taken three authors to put something like this together, but these three gentlemen were longtime friends and collaborators -- and lifelong fans and admirers of Errol Flynn. Thomas, in fact, some years later became one of the most prominent writers to push back -- hard -- against the scurrilous portrait of Flynn presented by the Charles Higham in his book "Errol Flynn: The Untold Story." Thomas's 1990 book "Errol Flynn: The Spy Who Never Was" remains the definitive rebuttal to Higham's sensational but unfounded (even fabricated) accusations that Flynn had served as a Nazi spy before and during World War II. ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this moderately heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.****
