Front jacket panel illustrations: Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Quinn, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Marlon Brando, Peter O'Toole, Shelley Winters. "Promising Personalities" of the year provide the usual mix of those who became major stars and those who, well, didn't: Peter O'Toole, Suzanne Pleshette, Ty Hardin, Janet Margolin, Trax Colton, Sue Lyon, Terence Stamp, Shirley Knight, Edson Stroll, Karl Schell, Christine Kaufmann, Marcello Mastroianni. (Sorry.Edson Stroll Hard to imagine what the qualifications for "promising" were: he was a regular on 'McHale's Navy," and his feature film career seems to have consisted primarily of co-starring roles in not one but TWO of the gawdawful Three Stooges features of the early 1960s. Oh, well, it could have been worse: at least he wasn't Trax Colton.) This year's "Portrait Dolls of Famous Film Folk" (thankfully confined to a single page) gives us a group shot of doll versions of Mae West, Lillian and Dorothy Gish, Charles Laughton, and Wayne Morris. The volume is dedicated to actress Mary Boland.
