[a good sound copy with only light shelfwear, but with both the book and the jacket unfortunately blemished by an unsightly brown stain surrounding the bottom rear flapfold (of the jacket) and the bottom corners of the pages throughout the second half of the book; the book addtionally is a bit faded along the spine, and has a one-time owner's name in ink on the front endpaper; the jacket has suffered a bit of paper loss at both ends of the spine, a few other small nicks here and there, age-tanning to the spine, and a bit of random staining on the front panel]. (12 B&W film stills) Photoplay edition of Sabatini's swashbuckling adventure novel of "Andr Louis Morreau, fugitive, strolling player, master of fence, [who] gained fame and happiness at the point of the sword, filmed by Rex Ingram for Metro Pictures (mere months before it merged with Goldwyn Pictures, and then became Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer). Ramon Novarro and Alice Terry (Mrs. Ingram) were the stars, and it's one measure of how prestigious the film was regarded that there are an extravagant twelve stills bound into the text. (Most films were accorded either eight or four.)
