[good sound copy with modest wear to the extremities, some minor spotting to the bottom edge of the text block; the jacket is age-toned (a little more so along the spine), with tiny bits of paper loss at the base of the spine]. (8 B&W film stills) Photoplay Edition of the first of Mrs. Prouty's two immortal weepies (the other of course being "Now, Voyager," published in 1941). Say what you will about Olive Higgins Prouty -- who isn't much more than a footnote in American literary history (and that largely due to her one-time patronage of Sylvia Plath) -- but how many writers were responsible for not one but TWO archetypal and enduring examples of 20th century women's fiction This film, produced by Samuel Goldwyn in 1925, was the first of three (so far!) screen versions, and starred Belle Bennett as the eponymous sacrificial mom -- by far the most important role of her career, which was cut short by her death from cancer in 1932.
