[a very nice copy, the book itself flawless; the jacket is slightly age-toned along the spine and at the edges, with some insignificant wear along the top edge]. (B&W photographs) SIGNED by the author beneath a printed preface, with the recipient's name ("Miss Littig" or "Miss Ettig") also written in the space provided. This short (21 numbered pages) book features photographs of about a dozen ships' carvings located in both public and private collections. The prefatory note reads: "When this article appeared in The New-York Historical Society's Quarterly earlier in the year, several people were kind enough to say they thought it would make a good Christmas greeting. I am not so sure but am willing to take the risk, for anyway you know I wish you the merriest kind of Christmas and the happinest of New Years. Cordially, [signed] George Zabriskie." The author (1868-1954), a native New Yorker and a collector of art, books and manuscripts, was at various times the president of the New York Sons of the Revolution, the New York Historical Society, and the United States Sugar Association. He was also a member of the Grolier Club and the American Antiquarian Society. Signed by Author
