[beautiful, as-new copy, with no discernible wear to either book or dust jacket]. (B&W and color photographs) The official (which is not to say definitive) Life of Bettie, "the greatest pin-up of all time," and the only one, I believe, to have had the imprimatur of the lady herself. The authors, who describe their work as "part biography, part scrapbook and part history of a legend," describe how they tracked Miss Page to her home in the California desert (exact location unspecified) and broke through her initial reluctance to speak of her past. In the end they obtained not only a lengthy personal interview, but also persuaded her to write a Foreword to their book -- charmingly reproduced as written, two pages of neat schoolgirl-cursive writing, somehow a perfect complement to the innocence she always projected, despite the naughty milieu in which she gained her enduring fame. Whatever the book's strengths or weaknesses as biography, though, it's a gorgeous production, lavishly illustrated -- a must-have for any Bettie fan. ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.****
