(no dust jacket, as issued) [good sound copy with firm binding (often not the case with these heavy volumes), light external wear but much cleaner that usually seen with this series, despite some minor staining at the top corner of the rear cover]. (B&W photographs, advertisements) Biographies, directories, statistics, surveys, etc., focusing primarily on the American film industry but justifying its "International" titling by including sections on the British and Latin American film markets. This was, of course, during the war, so the disruption to the formerly-lucrative European market was, shall we say, rather seriously disrupted; as publisher Martin Quigley puts it in his introductory note, the volume records the extent to which "the motion picture is earnestly, effectively engaged in serving both its audiences with entertainment of a high order and high importance in these days of stress; and serving, too, that same citizenry in the support of direct war causes in all manner of activities from the promotion of war loans at home to star appearances on the stages of theatres right behind the front." The sections of the book are: Who's Who (comprising about 60% of the volume's 970 pages); Motion Picture Corporations (including personnel and financial statements); The Motion Picture in the War; Industry Facts and Events of 1943-44; Services; Theatre Circuits; Organizations; Codes and Censorship (including the full text of the Motion Picture Production Code); British Film Market; Latin America; Theatre Equipment, Materials and Furnishings; Pictures (brief credits, release dates and running times for features, 1937-1944, with lists of short subjects, foreign film imports, and serials); Consent Decree (including the full text); Radio [and] Television; The Press. Interspersed throughout are advertisements for both companies and individuals. ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.
