[a good sound copy with just a touch of dust-soiling to the top of the text block and very slight bumping to the upper corners; the jacket shows just a bit of wear at the spine extremities, and some minor scuffing/soiling to the rear panel]. "This is the story of Erik, Count of the Norman Shore, a courageous Frankish knight in the service of Charlemagne, who became the first ambassador from the court of Charles the Great to Harun-al-Rashid, Calif of Bagdad." The latter is the Tyrant of the title, and is further described in the jacket blurb as "Ruler of the Faithful, who lived in unbelievable splendor and had absolute power over the lives of his subjects" -- and who was both "corrupted by power" and "one of the ablest and most far-seeing men ever to rule over Bagdad." (And apparently, at least in the imagination of the dust jacket artist, a blonde, to boot -- and with a helmet that seems eerily similar to that sported by John Wayne for his stunning (not in a good way) portrayal of Genghis Khan in the 1956 epic film THE CONQUERER.)
