[moderately shelfworn, spine slightly turned, light dust-soiling to top edge of text block, light age-toning to fore-ever, front joint of book is abraded along its full length but with no compromise to the actual binding; the jacket is edgeworn and a bit faded along the spine, with a number of small creases in the spine, some rubbing and scuffing, several old (yellowing) internal tape repairs, and a short pull-tear hole in the rear panel]. Shulman's second novel, essentially a sequel to his first, "The Amboy Dukes," centered around young gang members in East New York. The protagonist in this tale is an ex-Duke who, "after his release from the reformatory, was prepared to return home and make it up to his family, a group of decent people whom he had hurt. But he found his sister, Fay, keeping steady company with a cop [and] two of his old pals" who pressured him to join them in their criminal activities. The book was adapted for the 1959 film of the same name, which notably changed the Jewish gangsters (with names like Larry Tunafish and Itzik Yanowitz) to Puerto Ricans, and the setting to Spanish Harlem.
