"This is a story of a young man who immigrates to the United States [from Sweden] in search of the uncertain." After arriving in the U.S., where he has relatives, he enlists in the U.S. Army and serves in the Philippines during the Insurrection; upon his discharge, he goes to medical school and eventually becomes a successful doctor. Quite scarce; OCLC records only five library copies. Although there's no indication of it in the book itself, I'd make a moderate wager that the author (whose only book this was) was himself a doctor of Swedish descent.
