[modest edgewear to covers, tiny tear and associated horizontal crease at top of front cover, minor scarring and residue on rear cover from removal of mailing label]. (B&W and color photographs) The cover story is "Creating the 'Psychedelic' visual effects for 'THE TRIP'," explaining how "translation into cinematic terms of the far-out hallucinations inducted by LSD required skilled application of intricate 'light show' and optical technology." Also in this issue: an article lauding the achievements of ASC Associate Member Kemp R. Niver in re-photographing the Library of Congress paper prints onto 16mm film, using a process of his own devising, for which he was awarded an Honorary Oscar in 1955. (Ironically, however, with ever-evolving and improving technology in the world of film preservation, Niver's work eventually came to be regarded as substandard, and in the 1990s the Library of Congress began a project to re-photograph the entire Paper Print Collection onto 35mm film.)
