[no significant wear to book, just a bit of age-toning to the edges of the text block; the jacket has a few scrape lines in the upper area of the rear panel]. (B&W photographs) INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the half-title page: "For : who will / find some friends and / (I hope) a few enemies / herein. / with affection and best / wishes / Alexander Walker / London[] June 13 1991." This memoir by the "distinguished film critic, cinema historian and occasional agent provocateur of the movie industry," per the jacket burb, "is no celebrity Who's Who [although the preceding paragraph drops plenty of names, from Chaplin to Brando to Kubrick to Hepburn etc.]. Walker looks critically and invigoratingly at film performances; takes stock of trends and festivals; and analyses his own craft. There is warmth and wit in his discernment and judgements; often a rueful humour in anecdotes of occasions which left him bested. [The book is] acerbic, quirky, provocative, generous with praise and unsparing with blame." Never published in the U.S., as far as I can determine. Signed by Author
