[light shelfwear, minor dampstain at bottom edge of rear cover; the jacket is heavily edgeworn, with various short tears and tiny bits of paper loss, small dampstain at bottom of rear panel (matching book), bottom corner of front jacket flap is clipped, obviously to obscure the fact that it's the Book Club Edition, but I ain't fooled]. Classic tale of murder, obsession and a femme fatale, filmed very effectively in 1944 by Otto Preminger (who had started as the producer, but took over the directorial reins when Rouben Mamoulian departed the project). The front and rear panels of the jacket on this book club edition would appear to be identical to those of the first edition, although the content of the rear jacket flap (in this case an advertisement for war bonds and stamps) is different; all in all, though, a nice economical alternative to the nowadays very pricey first edition.
