(no dust jacket) [nice-looking copy, lightly bumped at the lower corners and the top of the spine, but no other significant wear]. The first English-language publication of the fifth of Traven's six "Jungle Novels," set in early 20th-century Mexico and collectively comprising a fictional prelude to the Mexican Revolution. Originally published in German in 1936, it was adapted for the 1954 Mexican film LA REBELIN DE LOS COLGADOS. Although unmarked as such, this book is from the collection of the San Francisco-based journalist and film critic Judy Stone, whose personal obsession with the mystery surrounding the author led her to travel to Mexico IN 1966, where she secured what was purportedly the only interview ever given by Ret Marut (who is generally acknowledged to have been Traven, living under an assumed name); she recounted the story in her 1977 book "The Mystery of B. Traven."
