[light shelfwear, a bit of dust-soiling to top of text bock, one-time owner's pencil signature at upper left corner of front endpaper; the jacket has minor paper loss at base of spine, a shallow chip at the bottom of the rear panel, and a couple of tiny chips along the top edge]. Although these plays aren't specifically immigrant-themed, they certainly represent the kind of fare presented within New York's thriving Yiddish theatre community during the early decades of the twentieth century. In particular, the works of Isaac Loeb Peretz (author of three of the seven plays in this volume) would have been particularly popular; per Wikipedia, he is regarded, along with Mendele Mokher Seforim and Sholem Aleichem, as one of the three great classical Yiddish writers. Contents: "Bebele" and "Lone Worlds!", both by Perez Hirschbein; "After the Funeral," "Of an Early Morning," and "The Sisters," by Peretz; "Brothers," by Abraham Raisen; and "Liars!" by F. Bimko. There is also a Prologue, "The Theater Goer," by Mosche Nadir, a first-person narrative expressing the mindset of "the average theater goer."
