(no dust jacket) [very beat-up, spine cloth separated/split at rear hinge; a reading/reference copy ONLY]. A reading/reference copy of Tully's first published book, a nakedly autobiographical novel that took him ten years to write, in fits and starts, during which he worked primarily as a tree surgeon, mostly in Southern California, where he had first moved (although "settled" would hardly be the word) with his wife and young son in 1912. The book was shaped (in ways both good and bad) by his encounters with some of his literary idols, including Jack London, Rupert Hughes and Upton Sinclair.
