(light green cloth, paper spine label; no dust jacket, but encased in a nice-looking facsimile reproduction of the original first edition jacket; see 2nd image posted with this listing) [covers are a bit bowed but otherwise just minimally worn, with slight fading to spine cloth]. The stated "Second Edition" (i.e. second printing) of Smith's beloved coming-of-age novel based on her own Brooklyn childhood; the basis for the 1945 film adaptation. (The publisher's code, G-S, indicates that the book was printed in July 1943, a month before its official publication date of August 20. ("8-43" appears just above the "Second Edition" statement.) Think they knew they had a best-seller on their hands Although the true first printing has become a highly collectable and commensurately pricey book, this second edition seems to be scarcer in the online marketplace than the first; go figure.) Although not marked as such, this book is from the collection of MGM writer/producer Carey Wilson. NOTE again that the book bears a FACSIMILE dust jacket, which has not been factored in to our pricing.
