(pictorial boards; no dust jacket, probably as issued) [moderate wear to extremities]. (B&W photographs and facsimiles) A profusely-illustracted account of Lane's career as a B-movie cowboy star, which lasted from 1940 to 1953. (He had been in Hollywood as an actor for about ten years prior to that period, but that part of his career is glossed over pretty quickly in this book, which pretty much takes the "films of" approach to his starring Western roles.) There's also a chapter on the period from 1961-1966, when he voiced the talking horse in the "Mister Ed" TV series -- although it's noted that he received neither on-screen credit nor any personal publicity during the run of the show, citing the producers' belief "that it would be a bad idea to publicize the voice of the horse because it might destroy the illusion which had been successfully attained of the horse really talking." (Seriously I was eight years old when this show came on the air, and even *I* knew the horse wasn't actually talking!) ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this moderately heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order. As always at ReadInk, domestic Media Mail shipping is free.****
