[no significant wear, just a couple of tiny smudges near the bottom of the front cover, otherwise unblemished]. An 8-page booklet (including covers; the text itself is just four pages) in which the later-to-be-blacklisted screenwriter advocates strenuously for "an immediate opening of a second front against Axis forces which, at this very moment, menace the territories and armies of England, America and China as gravely as those of our Soviet Ally." At the time, this was a hotly contested issue, and was most devoutly wish'd for by Soviet leader Stalin, who was desperate to force Nazi Germany to divert its resources from the Eastern Front to the West; it would be two years before such a front was actually opened, however, with the D-Day invasion of Normandy. As far as Trumbo was concerned, this was, of course, just the sort of Soviet-friendly advocacy that landed him in so much trouble with HUAC later in the decade, after the Russians and the U.S. were no longer joined in common cause (to say the least). OCLC records only a single physical copy, at the University of California-Davis.
